Justin Pillsbury of Augusta was sentenced to 50 years in prison. He was convicted of fatally stabbing his girlfriend Jillian Jones in an alcohol-fueled fight. Pillsbury acknowledged causing the fatal wounds but testified during his trial that he acted in self-defense after she attacked him with a knife.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection says is warning of unhealthy air. The agency has issued an air quality alert for Friday because climbing ground-level ozone is expected to reach unhealthy levels.

The four-day Republican National Convention in Cleveland has come to an end, with a speech by Donald Trump, accepting the GOP presidential nomination. Trump told the crowd that he'll turn what he believes are bad trade deals into great ones for the United States. And he says he'll never sign a trade agreement that hurts workers or diminishes freedom. He also says nearly 180,000 of the millions who are in the U.S. illegally are a threat to the nation's safety.
