According to AP, Police in Dallas say 5 officers have died after they were ambushed during a peaceful protest downtown. Another six officers were wounded. Witnesses say hundreds of people protesting this week's police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota were approaching City Hall when the shooting began. At least three suspects are in custody. Dallas Police Chief David Brown says the gunman has said that he'll harm more officers.(AP)

Geese at Norcross Point in Winthrop are becoming a problem. According to WGME, their dropping are not only messy, it can be a health hazard. Officials say the geese will not be harmed but are look at what can be done. The town is taking suggestions and they have asked people to not feed the geese.

Sylvio Normandeau of Winslow met his personal of goal of raising half a million dollars for kids with cancer. According to WABI, for 25 years he has been dropping the donation off at New Dimensions Federal Credit Union in Waterville. He set the original goal after his wife passed away from cancer.

From the Associated Press, A Maine camp that brings together teenagers from the Middle East opens Friday. The Seeds of Peace session brings together Egyptians, Israelis, Jordanians and Palestinians, along with teens from the United States and United Kingdom.

Acadia National Park is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The park began its life as the Sieur de Monts National Monument, created on July 8, 1916, by President Woodrow Wilson. It became a national park in 1919 and assumed its current name 10 years later.

The Maine Windjammer Association is celebrating its annual Great Schooner Race. More than a dozen schooners were taking part in Friday's race in Maine's Penobscot Bay. The course runs from Gilkey Harbor on Islesboro to the Rockland Breakwater.

Maine Rep. Chellie Pingree, a Democrat, is among a group of members of the House of Representatives that is calling for the federal government to redefine broadband Internet connections to better serve rural areas. Pingree and 28 other representatives want the government to increase the threshold for the Community Connect Grant Program.

Health officials in Arizona say there've been 22 cases of the measles in the state since late May. That's the largest outbreak that's going on right now in the United States. Officials say the refusal of some workers at a federal immigration detention to get vaccinated is partly to blame for the outbreak. Pinal County health director Thomas Schryer says the outbreak likely began with one migrant.
