This Sunday Maine Celebrates 195th Birthday

This Sunday, March 15^th, Maine will celebrate its 195^th birthday. Maine became an independent state in 1820 breaking away from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Maine entered the union the same time Missouri did but the two were very different. Maine was an anti-slavery or ‘free’ state while Missouri was a state that allowed slavery.
