If you plan on hitting the road, air or rails for the holiday... be prepare, you won't be alone. According to AAA a record 1 in 3 Americans will  be traveling this holiday season. As a matter of fact, the most since AAA began tracking holiday travel in 2001!

With Christmas and New Year's Day falling on Tuesday this year, the holiday travel span has an extra day and that will effect volume, especially in major metro areas regarding delays and congestion. In the larger cities you can expect delays up to four times longer than a normal trip according to AAA. They also advise avoiding travel during peak commuting hours. If schedules allow, leave bright and early, or after the morning commute.

There is a silver lining at least for those hitting the roads, AAA and GasBuddy indicate that you'll receive a gift at the gas pumps with the lowest national gas price averages of the year!
