A New York City man and a Winthrop woman have been arrested following a two-month investigation into the distribution of heroin in the Winthrop area.

The arrests on Dec. 14 were a result of a joint investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Winthrop Police, said Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

According to McCausland, for the several weeks, agents assigned to MDEA’s Augusta Task Force have been investigating the sale of heroin in the Winthrop area. Through this investigation, agents, with the assistance of Winthrop officers, were able to identify a local woman and a New York man who were suspected of being involved. The investigation included the undercover purchase of heroin from both, McCausland said.

On Dec. 14, drug agents and Winthrop Police arrested Bridget Drayton, 32,  of Winthrop on Main Street in Winthrop following a motor vehicle stop. Shortly after Drayton was taken into custody, her home at 230 Main St. was searched, McCausland said.. Police said that John Cedino, 19,  of New York City was inside the home and police discovered and siezed 40 grams of heroin (over 700 dosage units), several thousand dollars and a .38 caliber revolver and ammunition.

According to McCausland, Cedeno is being charged with one count of Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (heroin). This charge was aggravated due to the fact that the drugs were being sold within a school zone and the presence of a firearm, added McCausland.

McCausland said Drayton has been charged with one count of Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (heroin)-(aggravated due to school zone and firearm) and two counts of Class B Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (heroin).

Both Cedeno and Drayton were transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where Cedeno is being held on $50,000 cash bail and Drayton in being held on a $25,000 cash bail, McCausland said. Both are scheduled to appear in the Kennebec Unified Court on Feb. 8.
