Sgt. Mark Connor of Lewiston and Sgt. 1st Class Joel Carver of Clinton were honored at a ceremony at the State House and awarded the Soldier's Medal, the highest non-combat award for valor.The award ceremony on Monday was hosted by Maine's first lady Ann LePage and the Brigadier General James Campbell.

Sgt. Connor and Sgt. 1st Class Carver were presented the award after they came across a car wreck where a vehicle was overturned and smoking. The two soldiers are credited in saving the lives of the driver and passenger by pulling them to safety as the car was engulfed in flames.
