How they figure this stuff out is beyond me, but scientists just found out the universe is older than they originally thought. A look at the split second after the ‘Big Bang’ shows the Universe is 80 million years older, putting at 13.81 billion years. The European Space Agency’s Planck probe took a look at the afterglow of the Big Bang and found the Universe is older, but they also found it is expanding a rate slower than they thought.

The Planck space telescope has been mapping the sky for 15 months looking at light fossils and sound echoes from the Big Bang. NASA, which also is a part of the research, says the telescope gives them a better understanding of the Universe, its history and composition. Although the news was just announced and further research is continuing, most do agree, this is an amazing discovery.
