If you are looking for something ‘unusual’ to do this summer, Maine is full of places to go to that are off the beaten path.

Portland is home to the world’s only international cryptozoology museum. Cryptozoology is the search for creatures whose existence has not been proven due to lack of evidence. The museum has an unrivaled collection of specimens, replicas and artifacts. The Cryptozoology Museum moved to Avon Street.

Kennebunkport is where you can find the Seashore Trolley Museum. This is the ‘world’s oldest and largest’ museum of mass transit vehicles and you can see and board trains of different eras from around the U.S.A. and many other countries. The Seashore Trolley Museum lets you roam and explore at your own pace. The collection exceeds 260 vehicles from all over the world.

Orono boasts the largest collection of tomb figures from Western Mexico in the United States at the Hudson Museum. More than 8,000 archeological objects are on display with many of the figures dating back thousands of years.

Deer Isle is where to find Nervous Nellie’s Jams and Jellies. This is a one-of-a-kind place nestled in the Maine woods of Deer Isle with original sculptures created on the premises. They situated throughout the grounds and are created in wood, metal and glass. There are also three authentic building that date back to the 19th century like a wild west jail, lawyers office and a solon. Nervous Nellie's won the Yankee Magazine "Best Everything Place" award, and between the jellies, historical buildings, and copious surreal sculpture work.
