Today (March 27) makes the 20th anniversary of Viagra. The male enhancement pill was originally supposed to be a pill to help with high blood pressure .

Scientists from Pfizer found the pill did not work for high blood pressure but did have a interesting side effect. (enter boing sound effect here)

While testing the pill in clinical trails the noticed the side effect and came up with name Viagra. It took the FDA to approve the little blue pill for erectile dysfunction. Once the pill was approved it became an instant success and an immediate punchline for comedians.

It the years that followed Pfizer made billions of dollars from sale with the peak in 2008. That year sale where close to $2 billion. According to inverse.com in the years following 2008 competition cut into Pfizer's sale but there is still more than a million people that have a prescription.
