A Waldoboro man was arrested Jan. 5  on child pornography charges.

The State Police Computer Crimes Unit arrested Joel Harkins, 35, at his home at 78 Nash Road in Waldoboro, said Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

An initial review of his computer shows hundreds of photos and videos of child pornography, McCausland said. That computer will now be analyzed by technicians at the Computer Crimes Unit.  Harkins is charged with possessing sexually explicit materials of someone under the age of 12.  He was taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and was expected to be released on bail.  His first court appearance will be February 25 in Wiscasset.
