We wanted to take the time to thank the men and women in central Maine that serve our country. Today we salute Petty Officer 3rd Class Allan Barnes, a 2012 graduate of Medomak Valley High School and a native of Washington, ME.

He is an electrician's mate aboard the USS Carter Hall operating out of Norfolk, Virginia.

Barnes job makes him responsible for the ship's electrical system, he says 'it is really good to build my knowledge of electricity here,' and adds, 'I tend to learn something new everyday.'

The USS Carter Hall was commissioned in 1995 and is 610 feet long and has a top speed of over 20 nautical miles per-hour.

The ships primary purpose is to launch equipment and personnel for amphibious missions.

We'd like to say thank you to Petty Officer 3rd Class Allan Barnes and we invite you to send us photos with a brief story of someone locally that is serving our country.
