Westbrook’s Pat Gallant-Charette Conquered the English Channel and Now She’s Finished Another Challenge
Pat Gallant-Charette, 61, a grandmother from Westbrook, Maine already is the oldest woman to swim across the English Channel, she has finished her latest swim. Pat challenged the the Tsugaru Strait in Japan and finished the 33 miles with a time of 19 hours and 36 minutes. According to her personal blog, she was stung over 100 times by jelly fish and even got bit several times on her fingers by small fish. She now has 1.5 hour ride back to camp.
I am sure once she is rested, she will update the blog and give more details.
Earlier this year she was selected as one of 101 women worldwide as "101 Movers and Shakers" in the world of open water swimming. Honoring those as "open water ambassadors, spreading their enthusiasm and passion for the sport."
What's next? The plan is to tackle the Cook Strait in New Zealand in April 2013, the North Channel (between Ireland and Scotland) in September 2013....and what did you do today?
