Commercials always make toys out to be these amazing pieces of magic.  When kids see that, they always want it.  Of course, having already been there and done that as a child yourself, you try to tell them that toys in commercials never live up the their hype.  But, I guess you have to live and learn.

That's what happened in our house on Christmas morning.  My 5-year-old wanted a Flutterbye.  In my opinion, a Flutterbye is a girls version of the Airhogs Helicopter.  Charges for 30 minutes and has 5 minutes of fly time.  However, these cute Flutterbye Fairies have a little different twist on them than the Airhogs Helicopter.

In the commercial, the fairy launches off of her pad.  She has a sensor on her foot that allows the child to place their hand beneath the fairy has she flutters. This gives the illusion that she's floating inches above the hand.  Sounds magical and intriguing to a small child with a wild imagination.

Our Flutterbye was more of a possessed crazy butterfly than a magical fairy.  Wings twirling lifting her up into the air and moments later she would get into a tizzy and, as though she had a mind of her own, she would attack whoever was closest to her.  Evil critter is what she is.  It brought a great deal of entertainment to me watching each unsuspecting child get attacked.  What topped it all off was finally watching my 8-year-old son shoot it down with his Nerf gun.

RIP Flutterbye.
