2016 has been an interesting year, to say the least. We say goodbye to a sitting president and welcome in a new commander in chief. Our country is divided, but one thing that isn't divided, is the love people have for country music.

There were so many great country songs in 2016. But what was the top country song of 2016? Country Countdown USA will be counting them down this Saturday, New Years Eve and you can hear it all right here on B98.5!  Powered by the Damon family Stores and Mansirs Roofing And Siding

My favorite country song of the year was Cole Swindell's "You Should Be Here" Everybody has lost someone in their life, and this song hit's home. This heart wrenching song spent many weeks at number 1.

Marren Morris had a breakout year, with her song "80's Mercedes" and can I get a hallelujah for her debut hit "My Church"!

Tim McGraw had one of the biggest songs of the year with "Humble and Kind".  The song won "Video of the Year" at the 2016 CMT Music Awards, "Song of the Year" at 2016 CMA Awards and "Country Song of the Year" at 2016 American Music Awards.

Jake Owen had a huge summertime hit with his "American Country Love Song"

And Jason Aldean continues to mix his bluesy, rock style, with contemporary country. "The Lights Come On" spent a few weeks at number 1 earlier this year.

Those are five of my favorites from 2016. But none of them are the top song of the year. What is the top song of the year? We will all find out this Saturday, New Years Eve as Lon Helton counts them down from number 70 all the way to the number 1 song of the year starting at high noon!

So peel that lampshade off your head, drink plenty of liquids, eat lots of food (I recommend Chinese) and plan to tune in New Years Eve for the top 70 songs of the year.
