Many Mainers will be on the road heading to the beach, camp and hiking as the unofficial kickoff to summer begins. It will be costing Mainers a little more to fill up their gas tanks. According to the price-monitoring website GasBuddy.com, gas was one cent high per gallon this week for an average of $2.66.

Nationally the average went up five cents a gallon to $2.71.

The lowest gas prices in the state were reported at a gas station in Turner at $2.49 a gallon.

South Carolina has the lowest nationwide average gas prices at $2.37 per gallon.

Gas prices nationally have gone up 27 cents per gallon over the past month.
