The Winslow Family 4th of July Celebration draws tens of thousands of visitors to Winslow each year. However, after 25 years, festival organizers say they are getting the message from town officials that it is time for a new venue.

Kevin Douglass, chairman of the Winslow Family 4th of July committee, has been having talks with Fairfield town officials to move the event there.

Douglass had been planning to move the festival to Fairfield and he had meet with the Fairfield Town Manager Josh Reny several times to discuss the matter.

The Fairfield town council was scheduled to discuss the idea at today's council meeting. However, the item was pulled off the agenda, after Reny got a call from Winslow Town Manager Michael Heavener, who told him that the plan had not been voted on by the non-profit's board of directors.

Reny says the discussion of moving the festival to Fairfield has been put on ice.

The Winslow Family 4th of July board and volunteer committee plan to meet to discuss the proposal further.

Douglass told the Kennebec Journal, that he is frustrated with how the issue has unfolded and that a possible change of venue may still be in the cards.

Winslow town officials say they have always supported the festival.

About 70,000 people attend the free multi-day event, that features live music, a huge parade and one of the largest fireworks displays in the state.

According to the Winslow Family 4th of July Celebration website, here's a list of this year's events.
