Woman Swallowed Metal for 15 years
A 22 year old woman in India has been suffering from a metal fixation for the past 15 years. Her mother recently brought her to the hospital for an X-ray when she complained of pains in her stomach. The X-ray revealed what was causing her pain.
In her stomach there were 17 sketch pens, two pocket-combs, a metal rod, a needle, a nail and ballpoint pen refill. For the past 15 years she has been consuming these objects. The doctors initially tried to remove the objects without surgery but that wasn’t possible. Even with all the foreign objects in her stomach, doctors found no signs of damage or obstruction of bowel movement.
The woman has been on anti-psychotic drugs but her parents said they had never seen their daughter swallow any of the objects. They believe when she would wake up in the middle of the night to have some tea, she would swallowed the objects too.
