A new study by Duke University says women wake up grumpier than men because women need more sleep than men.  The study found lack of sleep for women can lead to heart  disease and depression, but the amount of sleep a person needs depends on the person, but generally women need at least 20 more minutes a day than a man does.

Women that don’t get enough sleep have high inflammation markers, which are linked to pain, so women that don’t get enough shut-eye and have higher inflammation markers can wake-up in pain. One of the major purposes for sleep is to recharge the brain because it is used all day and needs to reboot, for that reason women need more sleep. Women use more of their brains than men as women are better at multitasking, so it needs more rest to recover. Since women use more of their brain, more sleep in required.
