Yogi Berra, the New York Yankees Hall of Fame catcher turns who turned 90 years old on May 12, passed away last night, September 22. Yogi, has been in an assisted living facility in West Caldwell, New Jersey, for more than a year.

Yogi was called up to the Yankees  during the 1946 season. Sportswriters and umpires told Berra he was the ugliest player they had ever seen. Yogi’s response was, ‘So I’m ugly, I never saw anyone hit with his face’.

Yogi Berra was a great hitter, getting 2,150 hits, including 358 home runs in his 19 seasons in the league. He was an excellent catcher too, when Don Larson threw a perfect game during the 1956 World Series, he never shook off a sign given by Berra.

Yogi Berra is famous for his Yogi-isms too. His most famous being:

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over’.

Some other Yogi-isms:

‘It’s déjà vu all over again’.

‘When you come to a fork in the road, take it’.

‘Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical’.

‘If you don’t know where you’re going, you might wind up someplace else’.

‘You can observe a lot by just watching’.

‘Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps parents off the streets’.

And last but not least…

‘I never said most of the things I said’.
