One of 2014's big Oscar contenders is Rob Marshall's adaptation of the hit Broadway musical 'Into the Woods,' and it looks like it's about to add some more Oscar bait with the casting of Anna Kendrick.

THR has reported that Kendrick is in talks to join the film, which has Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Chris PineJake Gyllenhaal, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Tracy Ullman and Christine Baranski either cast or also in talks. Kendrick has already earned some prestige as she was Oscar nominated for her work in 'Up in the Air,' though -- as 'Into the Woods' is a musical -- it's just as likely she's in consideration because of her work in last year's hit movie 'Pitch Perfect.'

She would be playing Cinderella in the film, and her character goes through much of the fable's familiar story. That said, part of the fun of 'Into the Woods' is that it shows what happens during the "Happily Ever After" part, which -- it turns out -- is kind of boring. If cast, she would be following up her appearance in 'The Last 5 Years' (which is also a musical), while 'Into the Woods' is scheduled to open up against the remake of the musical 'Annie.' Basically, musicals are back -- at least for next year.

'Into the Woods' is set to hit theaters December 25, 2014.
