Sadly, this past weekend may have been the final regular race at the well known, loved by many, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough.

Personally, I remember many nights in my teen years where Beech Ridge offered a fun time time for low cash, and if you were lucky, you may even find a date there!

According to a story by the Bangor Daily News, the track owner at Beech Ridge, Andy Cusack made an announcement that the race track was being sold and was under contract with a real estate developer.

Although there was no information on what the plans were for the property, there is a very strong chance that Beech Ridge and the racing that has taken place there since 1949, will be no longer. The bottom line, the property is worth more than the business located on it.

According to the news report, many people in the crowd were stunned and could not believe it. The greater truth is, most people simply didn't want to believe it.

On the bright side, for all the race fans out there, Oxford Plains Speedway, Wiscasset Speedway, and Speedway 95 will still be around to offer that thrill that only racing can offer, not to mention the smell of burnt rubber from all the smoke shows.

It's just sad to see something go away that has been such a staple for so long, and brought smiles to faces of so many. So long Beech Ridge, thank you for the memories.
