Maine Child Hurt After Getting Leg Stuck in Snowblower
It was a scary scene that unfolded in a southern Maine town over the weekend following Saturday night's snowfall.
According to an article published by WGME 13, the South Berwick Fire Department discovered a child trapped with their leg inside the auger of a snowblower on Sunday morning.
The fire department went on to explain that their crews worked for about twenty minutes before they were successfully able to free the child's leg from the snow removal machine.
At that time, the child was transported to an area hospital, though officials did report that the injuries sustained were 'not major'. This event prompted the South Beriwck Fire Department to take to their social media pages with a warning for the public.
Their message about snowblower safety read in part,
“This serves as an important reminder that children and snowblowers do not mix! Please keep children, pets, and other bystanders away from power equipment when in use"
As of Monday morning, it wasn't immediately known if the child was still in the hospital or if they had been released. Additionally, we don't know the child's age or what led to their leg becoming lodged inside the machine.
Fortunately, it sounds like a full recovery will be made which is great news considering the speeds at which snowblower blades and augers are constantly turning while engaged.
This is a developing story that we will keep updated as more information becomes available to us.
