A young child was seriously injured Thursday evening after an accident involving a lawn tractor in Penobscot County.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of the accident at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28. The incident happened on Stetson Road in Kenduskeag.

Officials say the accident involved a young child and a lawn tractor. The child suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

At this time, the child’s current condition has not been released.

WGME is reporting that authorities have not shared additional details about what led up to the accident or whether anyone else was involved. No further information is being made public at this time.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains limited publicly as officials continue to gather information.

Accidents involving lawn tractors and riding mowers can be especially serious when children are nearby. Safety experts often urge adults to keep children away from mowing areas, avoid allowing children to ride as passengers, and make sure operators know exactly where children are before starting or moving equipment.
