The One Gas Station in Maine That Has a Surprisingly Delicious Pizza Slice
When you think gas station food, you think road trip candy and old taquitos and hotdogs rolling around on those mini heaters. You probably also typically expect that if a gas station has pizza on a rotator as well, it's old and crusty.
I found the one exception to the stereotype of terrible gas station pizza and it's in the South Portland Irving. If you don't already know about Rusty Lantern Market, here we go.
Rusty Lantern Market
Across the bridge in South Portland is my favorite Irving gas station and inside of it is a relatively new Rusty Lantern Market that literally serves hand-stretched pizza it's incredible.
Here's how they describe it themselves on their website,
"Our fresh dough, hand-tossed crust with our rich and thick pizza sauce topped with a special blend of shredded mozzarella cheese".
It's technically gas station pizza but oh my god was I shocked to find out it actually tastes as good as they represent it to be. Credit where credit is due, good work Rusty L.

Willard Beach
I'll be honest guys, l sometimes go to Irving on purpose just to go inside and hit the Rusty Lantern za and you know you do it too. It's the perfect snack stop that's on the way to Willard Beach, which is one of the more popular beaches in southern Maine (also my favorite).
You know how your mom always teaches you not to judge a book by their cover? Well don't judge a slice by their gas station cover. What a fun discovery.
