I ping-pong back and forth with all these Maine closures. One business closes, another opens in its' place but for how long?

It's hard to fall in love with a new store lately if you're constantly wondering when it'll be taken away from you, right? Is that my trauma shining through?

Here we go. These 3 local, adorable Portland shops are just a few that I'm still disappointed in for closing (yes I know it's sometimes unavoidable).

Bull Moose Portland

I'm not going to lie to you, i was never a frequent flier at Bull Moose, but you better believe I hear the Portland location being talked about constantly like it was some magical store.

There was something about that specific store on Middle St. downtown as it was known as their flagship store. However, covid did what covid does and according to their Facebook, their lease was up and foot traffic was not enough to keep the flagship running.

Is Bull Moose only in Maine?

Simply put, no. Maine carries 8 of their locations and New Hampshire claims 2 but they can be found around the world. I love the South Portland location, it always has a fun feel to it.

Don't worry, Bull Moose is still a very active member of our community sponsoring things like this:

Big Lots Portland, Maine

Alright, I know, I know, it's a chain Krissy it's not local. But for some reason the Big Lots in Portland was always a staple my friends and I would use when we were bored.

We'd walk around aimlessly and let the store tell us what we need and it was never anything normal. Good news if you're an Aldi fan, as 949whom reported that it will be replacing the Portland Big Lots location shortly.

Sissle & Daughters Cafe Wine Bar Grocery

They were only in business for 3 months before announcing their closure on February 22, 2025, but they must be doing something right since their Washington Ave location remains open.

Something about being able to order a drink trifecta (coffee, wine, energy drink) just sits well with me. It's unique, we like that.

Gus & Ruby's Letterpress

This was a hard one. I loved getting out of work daily near Commercial st. and driving by their colorful window.

You never knew what new quirky item they'd put out next but I'd love to check! Here's how you can find their Boston location though! Stay humble friends, you never know what's next.
