3 Favorite Restaurants We’ve Lost In South Portland I’m Still Sick Over
I really do try to be optimistic every time the news announces another closure in our area. Most of the time, something else interesting will replace our once loved restaurants, but these ones?
These places just took a sword and started stabbing me when they announced their closure. Let's start out with a personal favorite, Cafe Louis.

Cafe Louis
Voted Best New Restaurant in 2022 followed by a spot in the top 10 restaurants in Maine by the Portland Press Herald, Cafe Louis was one of my absolutely favorite breakfast spots.
They created such a unique spin on what brunch should be, and every time it hit hard. The staff was always so wonderful to my friends and I. I will always appreciate a kind industry worker since I know how hard it can be to deal with demanding customers 24/7.
Maine bagel
Come on, you're going to take the only drive thru bagel place in the southern Maine area from me? This one brought me actual tears my dudes and I'm not afraid to say it.
Their bagel recipe was the closest to a real New Jersey bagel I was able to find for a while. Can somebody please open a drive-thru bagel place like that one? Please?
Cracker barrel
This one feels criminal. It's a chain! Let us have our cheap thrills, dang. Across from the Maine Mall behind the Chipotle was our own little location and after 15 years they permanently broke up with us.
The one thing I'm happy about is that according to newscentermaine,
"Cracker Barrel has extended support to its displaced employees, including offering severance pay to some and providing information about job openings at other locations. However, the nearest Cracker Barrel is in Londonderry, New Hampshire, roughly a 90-minute drive from South Portland."
As long as continue to fill these voids with new and exciting restaurants and local businesses I'm remaining optimistic. God speed to the food industry.
