A ‘Hobbit’-Inspired Brunch Cafe Set to Open in Brunswick, Maine
There are certain characters and stories that have withstood the test of time, both on film and in books. Fantasy characters and stories seem to hold onto their charm more than others, perhaps thanks to their fantastical nature that allows people to escape a little bit of reality.
A couple inspired by one of those great fantasy stories and characters is set to open a new restaurant in Brunswick, Maine, this summer, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. They plan to call their new restaurant 'Elevenses', with a specialty focus on brunch.
If you're unfamiliar, elevenses is a mid-morning snacktime for hobbits where they curb their large appetites with nibbles that pair well with coffee or tea. Sounds perfect for a brunch restaurant in Maine.
According to the Portland Press Herald, part of the Hobbit theme will be to push many of their dishes in a British direction. There will be standard brunch fare on the menu, but also dishes like Scotch eggs and a proper English breakfast.
One particular thing that fans of the books and movies will love is that Elevenses plans to give many of their offerings names derived from Tolkien's work. A hot chocolate just tastes different when it's called 'Desolation of Smaug'.
Fans of The Hobbit have always had strong feelings about what a Hobbit-inspired feast could and should look like. In fact, there are entire Reddit threads dedicated to dishes fans would like to see on a Hobbit-inspired menu.
Elevenses hopes to be open at 50 Maine Street in Brunswick by early this summer.
