6 Off-Leash Dog Parks in Southern Maine For Your Pup to Run Free
I’m dating myself here but I remember a time when it was completely normal to have the neighborhood dogs run free. That is not the case anymore and hasn’t been in most places for quite some time.
If you’re a dog owner in Maine, you know your pup deserves some serious playtime. Luckily, Southern Maine is home to a fair amount of off-leash dog parks where your pup can roam free. According to Tripadvisor, these are 6 spots to let your dog stretch their legs and socialize.
I would recommend you research these parks before visiting as some have rules in place such as dog vaccination requirements.
1. East End Beach at Eastern Prom Park
Portland, ME
Dogs are welcome off-leash under voice control in specific areas of East End Beach. Just remember to keep a leash on you. Off-leash hours are from Memorial Day to Labor Day before 9am. and after 5pm, and from 5am to 10pm the rest of the year.
2. Quarry Run Dog Park
Portland, ME
Spanning seven acres, Quarry Run Dog Park is located off of Ocean Ave. has designated sections for large and small dogs, plus trails that lead outside the fenced area. Open from 6am to 6pm daily.
3. Kennebunk Dog Park
Kennebunk, ME
Kennebunk Dog Park is a fenced park is a great spot for dogs to run off-leash in a natural setting. Open daily from dawn to dusk.
4. Ogunquit Dog Park
Ogunquit, ME
Ogunquit Dog Park is a fenced park that offers agility equipment, picnic tables, and plenty of room to play. There is also a mile loop hike in the woods. Open year-round from 7am to dusk.
5. Merrymeeting Dog Park
Brunswick, ME
Merrymeeting Dog Park is conveniently located along the Androscoggin River and is set up for some outdoor fun for your dog. Open 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset.
6. Saco Dog Park
Saco, ME
According to their Facebook page, The Saco Dog Park features a grassy and shaded area where dogs can safely play off-leash. Lawn chairs and pick-up bags are provided.
With so many options, you and your pup can enjoy Maine’s beautiful outdoors together. Just remember to bring water and also keep in mind that your dog can’t pick up their mess on their own.
