There are a lot of holidays and traditions in the United States and around the world. There are traditional holidays and there are some strange ones. September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day, May 3rd is Lumpy Rug Day, November 16th is Button Day, strange holidays that are celebrated every year. Anyone can apply to have a reserved holiday as long as it’s not raciest, sexiest or hateful.  The days are usually reserved for weird holidays because mostly groups and fun organization go to the trouble to apply.

As far as traditions and celebrations go, one of the strangest is La Tomatina in Bunol, Spain. It’s the world’s biggest food fight that takes place during a weeklong festival where everyone enjoys themselves by throwing tomatoes at each other. La Tomatina involves throwing, tossing, smacking and bombarding, with over ripe tomatoes,’ anyone on the streets for the food fight. They say there are rules, but it’s really every man for himself, and as far as clean-up goes, firefighters spray the participants and streets down with water when the whole thing is over. No one remembers how the holiday started but it’s said to honor the town’s patron saint.
