According to the Kennebec Journal, a Maine man is being credited for saving a woman's life this past Saturday.

Daniel Valesecchi was driving along in the early morning hours on Route 302 in Bridgton. It was so early, in fact, that the sun wasn't even up yet.

As he was driving he came across what appeared to be personal items scattered along the side of the road. He told officials that after seeing that, he then saw someone's feet.

Those feet belonged to a woman that was pinned down to the ground on the side of the road by a man that was actively beating her. 48-year-old, Melissa Scammon, was walking to work in the pre-dawn hours when she was attacked by the man. She tried to fight him off and even pepper sprayed him, but to no avail.

Valesecchi said he got out of his car and began shouting at the man as loudly as possible. The man stopped what he was doing and walked off into the woods. After a brief search, authorities located and arrested 21-year-old, Jon Mitchell, of Bridgton.

Scammon was seriously injured with a broken nose and arm, as well as a shattered cheekbone, according to reports.

Mitchell was charged with one count of Aggravated Assault, though prosecutors say more charges will be coming. We will keep this story updated as more information becomes available.
