Many Mainers will be out on the roads early for Christmas and many will be up late to ring in the new year. The Maine Turnpike Authority are encouraging drivers to make stops to rest and stay alert, and to help out they'll be offering free coffee.From Christmas Eve at 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Christmas Day, and again from 10 p.m. New Year's Eve to 5 a.m. New Year's Day, the turnpike authority will be handing out complimentary coffee at all five of the turnpike service plazas.

Maine State Police troopers will also be patrolling the turnpike over the holidays to ensure safe driving and to help stranded motorists.
