Riding the rails, that's what many Mainers have done over the past year. The ridership on the Amtrak's Downeaster Boston-to-Maine passenger train continues to grow.
Success always seems to come with some problems, and in Brunswick, the noise from the idling train is a concern. The good news is that ridership for the Amtrak Downeaster’s first month of passenger service to Freeport and Brunswick was higher than expected. 80% higher that expected!
The Amtrak Downeaster is set to expand service northward to Freeport and Brunswick in November. Crews are finishing up the work on the tracks and a ceremonial train ride from Boston will be held on November 1st. A full schedule of two round trips per day will begin on November 2nd.
