Gov. Paul LePage supports LD 1411, a bill that would prohibit the use of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for foods that are subject to the state's sales tax. That would rule out foods defined as 'junk foods' by the bill's primary sponsor, State Senator Roger Katz of Augusta. That would include soft drinks and certain snack foods.
