City officials in Waterville are concerned about the increasing violence and vandalism in the Elm City. Officials are speaking out against the late-night downtown vandalism and violence that has happened recently.

Waterville's Mayor Karen Heck feels that the city needs to take a hard look at what's happening and what kind of communities we want to create.

There have been problems involving bar patrons fighting and breaking windows late at night and just this week, late Tuesday night, 26 year old Justin Smith of China was shot and killed.  The shooter was arrested a short time later.

Heck said there is a larger issue surrounding us and what has been happening and the issues must be addressed, as a society. She said "We have a culture of violence in this country, and it's time we started taking stock."
