At 8:46 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, most national news outlets took a break from their regular programming to air a special "moment of silence" from New York City and Washington D.C. to honor the victims of 9/11. We say "most" because, as it turns out, not everyone was a participant. While FOX, CBS, ABC, CNBC and MSNBC went quiet at this time, which was the moment 11 years ago when the first plane hit the Twin Towers, NBC continued on with the 'Today' show, which just so happened to feature an interview with Kris Jenner of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians.'

In 2012, as the U.S. reflects on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attack in New York City, one man will be resting his voice after belting out the words to 'God Bless the USA' 911 times. That's right: A Utah resident has attempted to sing Lee Greenwood's hit song 911 times in 48 hours.

Kix Brooks admits he was hesitant to agree to a September 11 release of his new album, 'New to This Town.' The singer didn't want to be difficult, but he didn't think the mood of his first solo album in 23 years matched what he thought the nation would be feeling on the 11th anniversary of the New York City and Washington D.C. terrorist attacks. In the end, he decided he was wrong, leaning on a decision he and Ronnie Dunn made just days after the original tragedy.

The events of September 11, 2001 will forever be engraved in American history as one of the most tragic events, and the most impactful moment of our lifetime. But while the country collectively grieved over the human casualties, none were more affected than the residents of New York City. It was there that the devastation occurred and it was there that the survivors, the families of the victims and the city itself had to rebuild their lives.

At the time, most couldn't find the proper words to address the situation, but despite this challenge, it was left to all the late-night shows and media outlets that we often turn to for guidance to help us make sense of 9/11 and help us move on.
