According to research from Canada beavers may be a contributor to global warming. We have heard about methane from cows being a big cause of global warming but it seems the same problem is coming from beavers.

The beaver population has been on the rise over the past 100 years and more and more dams are being created which creates shallow ponds. These ponds cause methane to release into the atmosphere because of feces and urine in the underground home of beavers unlocking greenhouse gases.

Beavers were hunt almost to extinction because of the fur trade in the nineteenth century, but because of the rising in the beaver population over the past 100 years more dams are being built and more methane from beaver dams are being released.

Beavers are responsible for 1.8 billion tons of methane each year 15% more than deer and antelope.
