Major League Baseball Starts Season In Sydney, Australia

Now that the Super Bowl is over it’s time to start thinking baseball. Spring Training gets underway soon. For the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, pitchers and catchers report February 15 with position players reporting February 18. This year, Major League Baseball will travel to Australia for the opening series of the season.

Chimp J. Fred Muggs Joins the Today Show in this Day in 1953

Seems strange these days but on this day, February 3, 1953, a chimpanzee named J. Fred Muggs joined the Today Show and host Dave Garroway as his sidekick.  The chimp was the mascot of the show from 1953 to 1957. It was the brainchild of NBC network president Pat Weaver.

Small Vial of Blood Belonging to the Late Pope John Paul ll Stolen

At the small Church of San Pietro della Lenca in Italy, a vial of blood from Pope John Paul II was stolen recently. The break-in was discovered by a custodian this past Sunday and a region wide manhunt is underway. The thieves also stole a large crucifix along with the gold reliquary containing the vial of blood.

4.4 Million Year Old Horse Discovered in Ethiopia

Scientists have found the fossil of a 4.4 million year old horse in the fossil fields of Ethiopia. They discovered the first pieces of an extinct species of horse which they say was about the size of a small zebra. Ethiopia today, is dry, but 4.4 million years ago it would have been covered in grasslands and woods.
