Seven dogs from California and Five cats from New Jersey will be arriving at the Franklin County Animal Shelter later this week. The shelter joined in an effort by the Maine Federation of Humane Societies to bring 45 cats from Monmouth County, New Jersey to Maine. These cats were already in shelters in Monmouth County when Hurricane Sandy hit that area.

Other shelters in southern Maine and along the coast are also accepting some of those cats. Seven small breed dogs from the Sonoma County Animal Shelter in California will be arriving on Friday. There will be a couple of Chihuahuas, a Basenji, a Jack Russell terrier, a Cairn terrier and a lab mix. The dogs will be available for adoption on Monday but can be viewed on Saturday. The pictures in this story are actual dogs and cats available for adoption at the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
