Hard to believe but Halloween is just around the corner, and it got me to thinking, is Halloween for kids anymore? I grew up as a kid in the 70's in a quiet neighborhood a block away from Bates College in Lewiston. It was a time when kids played outside, parents didn't worry when kids rode up and down the street on their bikes. It was a simpler and more innocent time.

Halloween was a big deal back then, my Dad always would go 'trick-or-treating' with me and my sister and Mom would stay home to pass out the candy. The neighborhood was a sea of little monsters, ghosts and superheroes.

Now that I am all grown up, I look foward to handing out the candy. I live in a mobile home park and I remember the first Halloween that I lived there, thinking I better have enough candy. To my suprise, just a handful of parents and kids showed up and it's been that way every year I've lived there.

Maybe it's a sign of the times we live in? Is Halloween for kids anymore?
