UPDATE 12/18: Sorry, Star Wars fans, it looks like that speculative James Corden cameo was actually an appearance by an equally talented industry doppelganger.

The X-wing pilot in the film who viewers thought might be Corden is most likely Jamie Christopher, a first assistant director on The Last Jedi and an AD on films like Justice League, Guardians of the Galaxy and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Parts 1 and 2).

Better luck next mission, Corden!

ORIGINAL: The Star Wars franchise is no stranger to the celebrity cameo. From Daniel Craig's comedic Stormtrooper role in The Force Awakens to Sofia Coppola's turn as one of Padme's handmaidens in The Phantom Menace, Hollywood's players seem to scrambling to appear in the iconic sci-fi/adventure series.

Star Wars' latest installment, The Last Jedi, is no exception, with everyone from Justin Theroux to Ellie Goulding (who revealed her participation on Twitter) to the late Carrie Fisher's dog, Gary, making an appearance on-screen. However, there's one possible cameo that hasn't been confirmed, but already has Twitter talking: James Corden.

[SPOILER ALERT: Stop here if you haven't seen The Last Jedi.]

The Last Jedi opens with — what else? — an intergalactic battle between the Resistance and First Order. During the brutal fight scene, a number of Resistance fighters get obliterated by General Hux's army, including an X-wing pilot who, according to some viewers, looks suspiciously like The Late Late Show host.

Unfortunately, the unnamed character gets blown out of the sky so quickly that it's hard to be certain it's definitely Corden, and the film doesn't appear on the actor's IMDb, either—but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating on social media:

PopCrush has reached out to Corden for comment. While he has yet to confirm whether or not The Last Jedi's unlucky Resistance fighter is him, a cameo would make sense: Corden previously appeared in Disney's 2014 movie musical, Into the Woods, so he's already part of the extended Disney family.
