January 28 is National Kazoo Day
Today, January 28, is National Kazoo Day. The Kazoo was first produced in the United States in 1852. It was co-invented by a black man, Alabama Vest, and a German clock maker Thaddeus Von Klegg.
The Kazoo can be made of plastic, wood, metal or other materials. You hum into a Kazoo, not blow. In the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s the kazoo was often played in popular music, thus, Kazoo’s are not toys, they are musical instruments.
