Augusta’s Julia Clukey is competing this week at the 45th International Luge Federation World Championships in Latvia. Up to this point, Julia hasn’t been doing as well as she hoped during the World Cup luge season.

She is currently ranked fourth among the four person U.S. team and 17th among the 40 competing in the world championships. She says the track is in great shape and the ice is smooth but getting used to her new equipment is taking a little time. She has gone through 10 different set ups on her new sled and feels once she gets that right she can concentrate on her sliding.

Her ultimate goal is to make it to the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea and make it back to the podium. You may recall she missed the 2010 Winter Games in Russia when she missed the cut by 13- thousandths of a second.
