Halloween is coming up fast and here are some interesting things about the day you may not know. The mask for the 1978 movie Halloween was a William Shatner Star Trek mask; it was used because the budget for the movie was tight so they got the cheapest mask they could find.

Halloween is the second highest grossing commercial holiday next to Christmas.

The word ‘witch’ comes from an old English word the means ‘wise woman’.

The ‘owl’ is a popular Halloween symbol because it was believed owls were witches and to hear one howl meant someone would die.

The first known mention of the words ‘trick or treat’ in print in North America is in Alberta, Canada in 1927.

Ireland is believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.

Halloween has be called many things over the years including ‘All Hallows Eve’, ‘Witches Night’, ‘Lamswool’, ‘Snap-Apple Night’, ‘Samhaim’ and ‘Summer’s End’.
