Maine Man Trying to Bring Out His Garbage Bitten Multiple Times by Fox

A Farmingdale, Maine, man was bitten multiple times by a wayward fox as he was attempting to bring out his garbage.

According to the Kennebec Journal, David Polley was taking his garbage out at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on Blaine Road in Farmingdale when a fox approached and bit him on the leg.

As he tried to get the fox off of his leg, it began biting his hand, the newspaper reported.

The KJ stated that the man called for help and that units from the Maine Warden Service and Gardiner Fire as well as an animal control officer with Inland Fisheries & Wildlife arrived at his place.

Officials saw the fox as soon as they arrived, but the animal took off under a barn on the property and they weren't able to get a shot at it, the newspaper reported.

Moments later, they were able to flush the fox out from under the barn and get a shot at it with a small caliber rifle, according to the Kennebec Journal.

At that time, the fox, which was presumably wounded, crawled back underneath the barn, according to the newspaper, and attempts to get the fox back out were not successful.

Polley was taken to an area hospital where he was given a rabies shot as a precaution, though responding wardens said they believed the fox was acting normally as it appeared to be scared of human interaction, the newspaper stated.

Currently, there is no word on what may have caused the fox to bite Polley in the first place.
