The 'Oculus' trailer isn't shy about who's behind the film's production. Producer Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Pictures have had tremendous success with the horror genre, crafting films like 'Paranormal Activity,' 'Insidious,' 'Sinister' and 'The Purge.' The company's latest film is 'Oculus,' which bears many of the same traits as other Blumhouse films. Domestic setting invaded by supernatural horror? Check. A decent cast of actors lending credibility to what should be genre absurdity? Check. A trailer that relies on surreal imagery and the innocent-yet-creepy voice of a child to sell the chills? Check!

This first 'Oculus' trailer is definitely a teaser, selling a tone and mood without even giving the story or the characters a moment. However, we know that the film is about a woman attempting to exonerate her brother, who has been arrested for a murder that he didn't commit. Naturally, the truth behind the crime involves a creepy mirror and all kinds of scary supernatural phenomena, most of which suddenly appears out of the darkness and is accompanied by a loud violin shriek on the soundtrack.

We kid because we love. Although we're unfamiliar with director Mike Flanagan, we've generally enjoyed most of the films that have come out of Jason Blum's little corner of Hollywood. Even the worst of them (we're looking at you, 'Dark Skies') have enough scary and clever moments to be worthy of a horror fan's time. We'll be checking this one out for sure.

'Oculus' stars Karen Gillan, Katee Sackhoff, Brenton Thwaites and Rory Cochrane, and arrives in theaters on April 11, 2014.
