Tractor-Trailer Ripped Apart After Trying to Go Under a Maine Bridge

How do you explain that to your boss?

I don't know the statistics on how many trucks have rammed into the bridge on Brown Street in Westbrook. I'd be willing to bet that it's quite a few. The bridge in question has a posted sign that says "low clearance 11'-5"".

So, not sure what happened, but the driver (who was not hurt) missed the sign. I will say, there should be one on the bridge. I get why there isn't. At that point, it's too late. But boy, that truck smacked into that bridge good!

Westbrook Fire Department was very kind in their Facebook post. They simply warned to stay away from the area while they took care of the hazard. They reported no injuries but the possible interruption to electricity, and that the road was going to be closed for several hours.

Holy crap, that's a strong bridge. The event of tall vehicles hitting low bridges or overpasses just doesn't happen on Brown Street in Westbrook. In fact, it doesn't just happen in Maine. Plus, it happens so often that there is an actual bridge with its own YouTube channel chronicling the hard-to-look-away messes.

This bridge is in Durham, North Carolina, and was built at a height of 11 feet 8 inches, three inches taller than the Westbrook bridge. A local business named the bridge 'The Can Opener', and they've recorded over 150 crashes involving large trucks that do not have the clearance to pass under the bridge.

I'm sorry that guy hit the bridge in Westbrook. That is a day-ender.
