Over 17 Billion Toys Put in Cracker Jack Boxes
Cracker Jacks, the candy popcorn, made its debut in 1893 at the Chicago World’s Fair, the same fair that introduced the Ferris wheel, Aunt Jemima Pancakes and the ice cream cone. A German immigrant sold popcorn from a cart when he and his brother came up with the idea of candy-coated popcorn they named ‘Cracker Jacks’. Cracker Jack was introduced in 1893, but didn’t become popular and immortalized until 1908 when it was mentioned in the song ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’. In 1912, toys started showing up in every box and since then over 17 billion toys have been put into boxes. In case you’re wondering, the boy on the box is named Jack and his dog is Bingo.
