State Police say the shooting death of a young woman in Hebron was a domestic violence homicide.  The State Medical Examiner’s Office today (Dec. 9) said Claire Randall, 27, died from multiple shotgun wounds.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, she was shot and killed in the bathroom of the family home on Dec. 8 by her father –  Daniel Randall, 56, who died of a single shotgun wound to the head.

State Police say he left a Portland substance abuse center at 10 Thursday morning, bought a shotgun, drove to his home  and then killed his daughter just before 2 pm, McCausland said.  Randall was estranged from his family and apparently did not have a key because he broke into the house through a garage door, according to McCausland. He also had been served with divorce papers during the week, McCausland added.

McCausland said Randall sprayed painted messages to his family on the walls of in five rooms of the house before he shot himself.

Randall had been a pastor at a Bristol, Rhode Island church  prior to moving to Maine earlier this year, according to McCausland. He also once served as a chaplain in the Air Force.  He had completed a 90-day program at the Liberty Bay Recovery Center on Forest Ave. in Portland on Tuesday and left the center Thursday morning, McCausland said.  Police are now tracking down where he bought the gun.

Claire Randall had recently moved from RI to stay with her mother Anita and her teenage brother -- both were not home at the time of the shootings, according to McCausland.
