Here are some of the top sports moments from 2013. There are 10 on the list but I’m just going to highlight a few. You can take a look at the entire list and see video thanks to time.com.

At number 9 was the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup after being down 4-1 heading into the final period. No team had ever come back to win a game 7 being down by 3 goals. The Bruins tied the game in regular play and went on to win the Cup in overtime.

Number 7 is Diana Nyad becoming the first person to swim from Cuba to Miami without a shark cage. She fought off jellyfish stings and asthma attacks in her 53 hour trek.

At number 6 was Andy Murray winning the Wimbledon title, the first Brit to win the title, played in Britain, in 77 years. Murray beat Novak Djokovic in three straight sets.

Number 4 is Lance Armstrong coming clean in January and admitting he used performance enhancing drugs during his seven Tour de France wins. He was stripped of all seven titles.

The Super Bowl blackout in the Superdome in New Orleans comes in at number 3. During the Super Bowl between Baltimore and San Francisco the game was suspended for 34 minutes when the Dome went black because of some kind of design defect. The Ravens were in the lead 28-6 when play was suspended and the 49er’s came back after play resumed and scored 17 unanswered points. The Raven’s went on to win34-31.

Number two is the American League Championship game. Game 2 when the Red Sox beat Detroit after falling behind 2-0 David Ortiz hit a grand slam during the eighth inning and changed the course of the post season.  The Red Sox went on to win the World Series and Ortiz hit .688 and two homers in the series.

The number one sports moment of 2013 goes to the Auburn Tiger’s and their win in the Iron Bowl over Alabama. The Tide tried a 57 yard field goal with time running out and the score tied at 28. The field goal was short but Auburns Chris Davis was in the end zone and fielded the ball and ran it back more than 100 yards for the winning score. Because of that play Auburn ended the season ranked number two and will face Florida State in the National Championship game January 6.
