U.S. Navy Captain and NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy was appointed chief of the Astronauts Office in July 2015. Cassidy is a graduate of York High School in Maine. He is also a member of the U.S. Navy Seals and won two bronze stars for combat leadership in Afghanistan.

NASA has revealed that astronauts in space suffer from sleep deprivation. According to a 10 year study it shows astronauts get an average of only six hours of sleep a night. NASA orders crew members to get at least 8.5 hour of sleep but that’s not happening.
This spring NASA plans to announce their latest class of astronauts. 9 to 15 candidates will be chosen for training to begin in August of this year. The space agency received more than 6,300 applications for a space program that doesn’t have a shuttle program anymore.
